I know that Bushnell 1-4×24 4X makes good optics and I already have several Bushnell scopes in my collection, so I had no doubt that this one would be great too and I wasn’t disappointed! I am really impressed with this scope.
Please note that Bushnell ar optics 1-4×24 has a very basic reticle that allows you to center aiming but does not provide any sort of elevation or windage adjustment help like Mil Dot or BDC reticles. This reticle is specifically designed for quick target acquisition in short and medium ranges but is completely useless for long-range shooting.
Otherwise, it’s a high-quality, very well-purpose-built scope that will serve you well. Magnification can be easily adjusted between 1x and 4x by turning the ring located on the eyepiece side.
Eye relief adjustment is also available on the eyepiece end of the scope, which is great, I hate it when the scope does not have such a simple feature as eye relief. Eye relief and magnification rings the movie exceptionally smoothly like a high-end camera lens. This tells a lot about the built quality of this scope.
Windage and elevation turrets are large so you can do adjustments with your fingers and are covered by screw caps. There are no “leashes” or wires that attach the turret caps to the scope body so when they are removed for adjustment it’s very easy to drop or misplace these caps.
The Bushnell 1-4×24 4X scope does not come with any rings. Which is okay, I noticed that cheaper scopes usually include rings and if rings are included, they would be the cheapest and crappiest kind.
Long story short, I always throw away or give away the included rings and buy a new set of quality rings that might cost you as much as the scope itself. So, don’t be discouraged by the rings absence, it’s actually a good thing – you are not paying for something that you will not use. What I’m missing the most is illumination.
For this price I expect to have it. I normally do not even consider a scope that does not have illumination because it greatly limits its usability especially in dusk and nighttime. Therefore, while I love all other features and the clearness of the optics, I will not be able to give it the highest rating.
I’m really impressed with this scope. Part of that is because I’ve never owned one of this quality. I’ve usually bought sub-$100 optics and have been happy enough with them. But this one is so much better.
Of course, the first thing I had to do was buy mounting rings since my older scopes weren’t 30mm. One would expect that an item in this price range would come with rings – or at least a coupon for ones that would fit your firearm – the way Walther handles the mounting plates for the PDP. But no. Trip to the sporting goods store. Then a second trip to return the first set because the rail on my .22 is the smaller one. But after I got everything, I needed the mounting went well.
I stuffed a laser bore sight into the muzzle of the rifle, flipped it on and looked through the sight. It was almost perfect. A few clicks later the dot was in the middle of the crosshairs and I was done. I loved the fact that the adjustment knobs can be reset to zero without tools (the manual seemed to say otherwise) and I buttoned it all up and put the included lens covers back in place.
The focus ring on the eyepiece – as well as the magnification ring – move smoothly like the lens of a good camera. That’s another feature I’m going to really like as I upgrade from the cheaper scopes.
Sometime in the coming week I’ll head to the range to see just how accurate the bore sighting was, make any small corrections and enjoy this beauty. I don’t know if this will make me a better shot but it sure will let me better acquire center of the target.
